You can now obtain the professional qualification of the British Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in the following areas of their qualifications (1) Foundation Award Certificate (2) Advanced Certificate, (3) Internal Communication Certificate, (4) Professional PR Diploma (5)Crisis Response Communication Diploma (6) Internal Communication Diploma (7) Public Affairs Diploma.
The Business Education Examinations Council has established two CIPR approved cethntres in Abuja and Lagos. The Abuja office is at Nworah Plaza, 3, Dar-es-salaam Street, Wuse 11, and the Lagos office is at13, Randle Road Apapa, Lagos.
Lectures are held at these centres on biweekly Saturday of every month for each circle of CIPR programme.
ABOUT THE CIPR UK QUALIFICATION
The Chartered Institute of Public Relations is a global Professional body for PR practitioners in the UK. It is the world’s leading public relations industry professional body. The CIPR was founded in February 1948. The body has over 9500 members involved in all aspects of public relations.
It is a founding member of the Global Alliance for Public relations and communications management. The institute represents and serves the interests of people working in public relations in UK and globally. It offers members access to information, advice and support and provides networking and training opportunities through a wide variety of events, conferences and workshops.
Membership of the body is on an individual basis and not on corporate basis. There are six grades of membership (Fellow, member, Associate, Affiliate, Global Affiliate, Affiliate studying and students) spanning different levels of experience and qualifications in Public Relations. Membership assessment is rigorous and is based on educational qualifications and multi-disciplinary experience, ensuring very high standards.
As a CIPR member you can use the member area at www.cipr.co.uk, which is stocked with information, case-studies, skills guides, research, and examples of best practice.
When you sign up for a CIPR qualification, you also sign up for CIPR membership. This is a course requirement and helps ensure that you have the support and resources you need as you progress and with your studies.

The CIPR’s qualifications are a key part of the institute’s activities. The qualifications are in two areas: (a) General Qualifications and (b) Specialist qualifications.
The general qualifications are made up of : (a) Foundation Award Certificate, (b) Advanced Certificate and (c) Professional PR Diploma. The Professional PR Diploma is the CIPR’s top qualification. It is recognized as being at a level equivalent to a Master’s degree, and indeed students with the CIPR Professional PR Diploma are granted exemptions from a number of these degrees.
The Specialist qualifications are made up of (a) Crisis response communication diploma (b) Internal communication certificate (c) Internal communication diploma and (d|) Public affairs diploma.
Foundation Award Certificate in PR is aimed at graduates interested in pursuing a career in public relations or those who have been working in the business at fairly junior levels for at least one year. This is the only stage that requires an assessment through examination. Assessment is based on a three-hour examination.
Advanced Certificate in PR is aimed at those who have completed the Foundation certificate or those who were given exemption from professional certificate level. It is an assignment based programme – taught and assignment. Holders of BEEC or NIPR professional certificate in Public Relations will be admitted for the programme. University graduates with public relations experience are also offered the opportunity. The programme is made up of three units and each unit is concluded with a take home assignment questions from CIPR UK with a submission date.
Professional PR Diploma in PR is for more experienced professionals and provides advanced capability in management and practice. It is also made up of three units and each unit is concluded with students take home assignment questions from CIPR with a stated submission date of the assignment to CIPR centre (Business Education Examination Council). CIPR Diploma qualification is a master’s Degree equivalent.
- Crisis Response Communication Diploma:
This is aimed at those who are experienced communicators and who want to improve their understanding of crisis and issues management. The course is taught and assessed at postgraduate level. It is delivered by practitioners who have held senior level positions in private and public sector organizations.
- Internal Communication Certificate:
This specialist qualification aims at those who are interested in moving into this specialized field. This course will give them a thorough grounding in effective internal communications. This qualification is taught and assessed at the same standard as a first degree.
- Internal Communication Diploma:
This specialist qualification aims at experienced internal communicators or PR professionals. The internal communication diploma will enable them to underpin and develop their strategic internal communication and management skills. This qualification is taught and assessed at postgraduate level.
- Public Affairs Diploma:
This specialist qualification is aimed at experienced practitioners who need to develop their strategic public affairs and management skills. The course is taught and assessed at postgraduate level.

COURSE STARTING PERIOD
The course starting dates are January, March and October yearly. Actual teaching time is approximately 48 hours of contacts (6-7 teaching contacts) the rest is project work and assignments. It is important that you apply early before the closing date. No late entry will be considered when entry for a particular circle closes. All late entries will be transferred to the next circle of the programme.
